VA adapted-housing grants may help severely disabled veterans adapt or purchase an accessible home.

SAH (Specially Adapted Housing)

Up to 6 lifetime uses

For qualifying severe service-connected disabilities. Adapt or purchase an accessible home.

SHA (Special Housing Adaptation)

FY 2026
Up to $25,350

For loss of use of both hands, severe burns, or serious respiratory injuries.

TRA (Temporary Residence Adaptation)

FY 2026
SAH-eligible: up to $50,961 | SHA-eligible: up to $9,100

For temporarily living in a family member’s home.

HISA (Home Improvements & Structural Alterations)

Up to $6,800 (service-connected/50%+ single disability) or $2,000 (other)

Medically necessary structural changes to primary residence. No new construction, routine maintenance, or hot tubs.

TVC Housing for Texas Heroes

TVC-funded local grantees may provide repair and modification services for Texas veterans. Contact the funded organization in your area through the TVC Grant Services Directory.

Get VA approval before beginning any adaptation work. Amounts are FY 2026 and subject to change. Specific disability criteria apply for each grant type.
